Through specialist teaching and support, IPaSS promotes greater inclusion, increased independence, equal access to the curriculum and improved educational outcomes.

Specialist TA Support

IPaSS employs specialist Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified to support children with severe and profound visual impairment. The role of these Teaching Assistance is to:

  • provide one-to-one classroom support where necessary – usually in subjects which have an element of health and safety such as PE or Science (practical experiments) or those which have a highly visual content such as Maths, Geography, Art, Technology
  • develop adapted learning resources to ensure pupil integration and access to the national curriculum (these include Braille, large print, tactile, audio, iPad/other tablet based files)
  • promote independence, inclusion and integration within the setting
  • work closely with parents and babies and young children to give advice and promote early development through play activities
  • deliver targeted programs to children with visual impairment and other complex needs
